Allerton's Garden, South Pasadena, looking towards the Raymond Hotel, California
A formal garden occupies the foreground, with the Hotel Raymond in the distance against the backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains. This was the second hotel on the site, built in 1901 where the first had burned, then closed in 1931. The gardens belonged to the winter home of millionaire Samuel Allerton, who had built on the lot around 1904, with the house facing Buena Vista. The publisher's number 4528 is on the divided back of this German-made card. Another number in parentheses in the right lower corner of the back is 52846. The South Pasadena Public Library gives the card dates of "1907?-1910."
