Feeding oranges, Cawston Ostrich Farm, California
Although Cawston's Ostrich Farm raised birds to sell their feathers, they also had a tourist business partially promoted through streetcar lines that ran to the farm. In this scene at the farm started by Edwin Cawston in 1896, ostriches were fed whole oranges for the tourists to see the whole fruit going down the long necks. On the back is an advertisement for "Cawston Ostrich Feathers Awarded 7 gold medals. Write for FREE illustrated Catalogue and Price List. Cawston Ostrich Farm So. Pasadena, California." No publisher is listed on the divided back. Produced after 1907, this postcard shows people who are shown on a very similar postcard dated 1915.
