Diamond Castle, Alhambra, California
The Diamond Castle on Grand Avenue east of Atlantic was built around 1907. A creation of Alexander MacLean, it was constructed partially in the Queen Anne style. This tinted picture looks exactly like a black-and-white photograph in the University of Southern California Libraries' California Historical Society collection. Several photographs of its construction are also available. This card with a divided back was made in Germany, meaning that it must have been produced between 1907 (when postal regulations changed to allow messages on the address side) and around 1914 (when United States postcards were no longer printed in Germany). This large residence has turrets and a tower, giving it the feeling of a castle.
