The Albertype Co., Brooklyn, New York
The Hotel Barbara Worth opened in 1915, the namesake of a fictional character created by Harold Bell Wright, whose The Winning of Barbara Worth was a best-seller. Wright, who lived near El Centro at the time, posed with one of the four murals on the lobby walls (one shown here above the central door) by Edouard Vysekal and Luvena Buchanan, which were destroyed when the hotel burned in 1962. Local citizens were used as models for the murals. This picture was hand colored.
