Gentlemen:-
Herewith a comparative statement of the earnings and expenses of the hotel for the months of January, 1893 and January 1892, showing that the house count was materially less, and that, though we increased the board per capita, the expenses increased per capita on account of having a smaller house count and getting ready a larger force than was actually needed for the number of people, the latter action being based on the experience of former Winters. However, the statements compare very favorably, so far as January, 1893, is concerned.
We changed our chef about February 1st, and I believe we should have a much better showing for February than for the same month of 1892, except that the first half of the month ran lighter than the same time of last year, though the increase in the last half will more than compensate that loss, but we will not get the receipts for the last week in February until in March, and, therefore, the showing may have to be made comparatively, taking February and March together.
