Storekeeper Third Class Buck joined the Navy Reserve in January of 1942 only to find himself stationed in San Diego after being born and raised there, attending San Diego State College from 1938 to 1939, and being trained at the Naval Station there. He expresses his thanks for the newsletter on United States Destroyer Base memorandum paper.
