Post, Lauren C., Editor
A photograph of John C. Butler is featured on the first page, with a caption informing readers that he was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross "for extraordinary heroism and distinguished Service as a bomber pilot during the Battle of Midway." At this point in the war, there were 2,276 men and women from San Diego State in the service and 878 of them were officers. 38 had been killed, 12 were missing, and 11 were held as prisoners of war. The end includes an announcement "To all 'Aztec Dads,'" about a meeting of the American War Dads at the Chamber of Commerce. According to the announcement, this organization's objectives include: "permanent peace, adequate hospitalization, gainful employment, sound rehabilitation, and training and education for the returning veterans."
