McGehee III, Fielding M.
This is a summary of a sermon and request for donations to Peoples Temple that took place in Los Angeles in May 1974, shortly after members of the Symbionese Liberation Army died in a shootout in Compton. It was prepared by Fielding McGehee III and is also available from the Jonestown Institute. In the full version on the Institute's Web site, McGehee provides lists of the people named in the sermon, people present who were mentioned, and "Bible verses cited." At the end here and on the Web site, there are a couple of paragraphs of "editorial observation" in which McGehee comments on the place this sermon holds in Jones's life trajectory. The short summary of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, who retrieved the original tape from Guyana, is also provided, in which they state that the tape was obtained "in connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman Leo J. Ryan ..."
