Bellefountaine, Michael
This is a transcript of a tape recovered from Guyana by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation after the assassination of Congressman Leo J. Ryan. It was reviewed, transcribed and summarized as part of that investigation. In this recording, made available by the Jonestown Institute, a woman has been brought to Jim Jones, probably at the Peoples Temple in San Francisco, and he performs faith healing after revealing personal details of her life and requiring that she "separate" from the Grace United Methodist Church. Intermittent applause and music punctuate the proceedings. At the end of the tape a second woman testifies to her own healing and belief in Jones. A note on the transcript on the Jonestown Institute's Web site states, "This tape was one of the 53 tapes initially withheld from public disclosure."
