This interview with Portia Goode, Chairman of the Governing board of the Grossmont Community College District took place at her home in El Cajon as part of an oral history project about women in politics at San Diego State University. Goode was born in Chicago and received her BA from the University of Minnesota. She earned her MA in business administration at the University of Cincinnati, and came to San Diego in 1952. She is a widow with one son working as a real-estate salesperson. She was active in the American Association of University Women, Family Service Association, Parent Teacher Association, and several other civic organizations. Goode had been active on school boards since 1956.
