Poole Brothers, Chicago
Memorial to Fray (Father) Junipero Serra (1713-1784), a Franciscan monk whose birth name was Miguel Jose Serra. Serra led the founding of the Mission of San Diego in 1769. The plaque and bust are shown during the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 held in San Diego's Balboa Park to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal. The memorial is located in the courtyard of the Casa del Prado, which was then called the Varied Industries and Food Products Building, and later the Foreign and Domestic Industries Building, the Food and Beverage Building, and the County Fair Building before its demolition and reconstruction in 1971. This postcard is labelled "Official Views."
