Entrance to Plaza de California from the Cabrillo Bridge (Puente de Cabrillo), showing the west entrance arch, California Building (later San Diego Museum of Man) on the left and California Tower (centered) during the Panama-California Exposition of 1915. The California State Building (including the California Tower and California Building) was designed by Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924) for the 1915 Exposition held in San Diego's Balboa Park to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal. Cabrillo Bridge was also designed for the Exposition, by architects Frank Phillips Allen, Jr. (1881-1943), and Thomas B. Hunter, with construction and opening in 1914.
