Abbot Kinney's open-air bathhouse in the middle distance has behind it the roller coaster ride called "Scenic Railway" that looped out over the ocean from the Abbot Kinney Pier. Here is the boardwalk or promenade, also known as "Ocean Front Walk" leading to Ocean Park on the northwest, and beside it the beach. On the divided back are the publisher's number F 217 and the promotional message, "As seen on Balloon Route Excursion," referring to a trolley ride out of Los Angeles.
