Miniature railway crossing bridge over lagoon at Venice, California
Here the "miniature railway" is on its way back to its starting point. The tiny open cars are just visible starting at the first telephone pole over the bridge and stretching to the right. This Venice shuttle system was built by John J. Coit at the request of Venice builder Abbot Kinney, initially running a mile and three quarters from the Windward Avenue business district across canal bridges and past residences. It returned by looping up Washington Boulevard past the maintenance yard at Lake Avenue, and back to Windward along Mildred Avenue. The publisher's number F 223 and logo are on the divided back along with a promotional phrase used for the Southern Pacific Railroad: "On the Road of a thousand wonders." Given the divided back, this postcard would have been produced in or after 1907.
