The Venice Auditorium was on the Abbot Kinney Pier. Despite a storm in early 1905 that destroyed the pier and everything under construction on it, the pier, Auditorium, Ship Cafe and other buildings were finished in time for the July 4 opening. The first floor of the auditorium became the Venetian Gardens in the off season, serving refreshments while a band played. Occupying much of the message panel on the back of this divided card is an advertisement for the Balloon Route Excursion, showing that trolleys originating in Los Angeles served Kinney's "Venice of America."
