Deadmans Island, San Pedro Harbor, Los Angeles, California
Van Ornum Colorprint Company, Los Angeles, California
A breakwater starts in the foreground and stretches out to Deadman's Island, a landmark removed starting in 1928 as the Los Angeles Harbor expanded in San Pedro Bay. These jagged piles of stone are seen in mirror image in an 1870 photograph looking otherwise exactly like this, reproduced on the Water and Power Associates, Inc. virtual museum Web site. They extended from Rattlesnake Island, the other island in San Pedro Bay. The publisher's number on the divided back is D 101, along with the railroad-promotion motto "Reached via the Salt Lake Route."
