This linen card shows the Roosevelt Highway and Pacific Ocean with a lighthouse jutting out from the beach on a spit of land. In the immediate right foreground are bluffs of the Pacific Palisades. A descriptive paragraph on the divided back states that "Santa Monica's fine climate makes the broad sandy beaches most popular with bathers and the beach playgrounds are well equipped for the youngest visitors." This area became the Will Rogers State Beach in 1942, and the lighthouse (demolished in the 1970s) was the landmark for the former site of the "Long Wharf," with Malibu in the distance. Rogers (deceased in 1935) owned at least some of the beach as well as land in the Santa Monica Mountains shown here in the distance. Will Rogers State Park in the mountains came about when Betty Rogers died in 1944 and left the land to the State of California. The publisher's number 333 precedes the title in the top gold border.
