People crowd a pier and flags wave as ships of varying sizes and types are near shore. Telephone/telegraph wires continue onto the pier, and a tower is seen toward the ocean end. The publisher's number F 10 is on the divided back along with the railroad-promotion motto "On the Road of a thousand wonders." Sixteen years later Route 66 came into being, and after 1939 it ended in Santa Monica. The western end of Route 66 is nearby. The highway dedication plaque is a block away at Santa Monica Boulevard and Ocean Avenue.
