In this color image, a mansion stands on a hill with two tiers of steps leading up to the house level. Gardens with palms and other trees are on either side of the steps and the house. The Sterling Estate villa was built in the Italian style in 1897 by D. H. Donald for E. C. Sterling, the owner of all the 19th-century patents for the manufacture of pressed bricks in the United States. The Redlands Historical Society designated this a "heritage home" in 1981. The publisher's number is H 51 on the divided back, along with the phrase, "On the Road of a thousand wonders," a railroad promotion motto.
