Framed by tree branches, a view of Santa Barbara places the mountains in the distance. On the divided back there is a promotional paragraph: "Beautiful Santa Barbara lies between the San Ynez Mountains for a background, and faces the smooth Santa Barbara Channel. Its climate is ideal. On the road of a thousasnd wonders." The last phrase echoes a promotional motto for the Southern Pacific and/or Union Pacific Railways to advertise their routes. The "Santa Barbara Channel" would refer to the expanse of the Pacific Ocean between the coast and the Channel Islands of California about four miles south.
