El Mirasol, Santa Barbara, California
Photographic paper: Artura
This is a Real Photo Post Card developed in sepiatone showing a hotel with arches beside and over doorways and sidewalks leading to them. Lawn, trees and flowers, with trellises and a tile roof complete the picture of a one-story adobe building. This home, called "El Mirasol," filled a city block in Montecito. It was designed in 1905 by New York architects Delano and Aldrich for Mary Herter. In 1913, her heirs turned the home into the El Mirasol Hotel. In 1966 fire damage threw the property ownership into a state of continual flux that ended with the buildings being razed, with donation to the City of Santa Barbara in 1975. The site was eventually used for the Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens. The brand of photographic paper used, according to the design of the stampbox on the divided back, was made from 1911-1921.
