Saint Francis Chapel, Mission Inn, Riverside, California
E. C. Kropp Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Saint Francis chapel is part of the Rotunda wing of the Inn, completed in 1931. In 1932 the Saint Francis Atrio or International Shrine for Aviators was opened to recognize and commemorate famous aviators (far left). As on the back: "On the Famous Fliers' Wall have been placed autographed wings by men and women celebrated in aviation." The chapel is also home to art pieces collected from around the world by Inn owner Frank Miller--in particular seven Tiffany stained-glass panels acquired from Louis Comfort Tiffany (on the right here) himself and a gold-leaf Raya's altarpiece. On the divided back are the number 12058 and the contributor's logo in the stampbox, as well as the Inn's logo the raincross.
