People are on the beach and in the surf north of Wharf Number One, where a ship is docked. The scene is from an 1890 image as described by the Redondo Beach Historical Commission. At that time this was a "major port for the Los Angeles area," with a chief cargo being lumber from the Pacific Northwest. When ships came in, people flocked to the beach.
