Gardens, a pool and a pergola are in the foreground of a picture that includes a large house with a pillared portico on the left horizon, with trees on the left and right. This is the sunken garden of Rudolph Schiffman pictured in the January 1920 edition of The Building Review (plate 7). The house on South Grand Avenue was called Grand View for its view of the San Gabriel Valley, and the gardens comprised six acres.
