Ostriches fighting at the Cawston Ostrich Farm, South Pasadena, California
The VanOrnum Colorprint Co., Los Angeles, California
Although Cawston's Ostrich Farm raised birds to sell their feathers, they also had a tourist business. Ostriches pulled carts and carriages, and there were tours, clothing, and souvenirs for sale. In this picture two birds on the left are fighting, plumes upraised, while the flock on the right is uninvolved. This is one of many postcards with this image, including PC-001-924. On the divided back of this card is the publisher's number B 93, with the slogan "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders," which might indicate that this card was part of a railroad promotion.
