Chester Place was the oldest gated community in Los Angeles, where wealthy people like oil magnate Edward L. Doheny lived. Immediately south of downtown, it was dedicated in 1899 between 23rd Street and West Adams Boulevard. This became the Doheny campus of Mount Saint Mary's College. Though unidentified on the postcard, this is the Doheny Mansion.
