This is a view from the road of the Virginia Hotel, seen elsewhere in this collection from the beach behind the hotel. A vast lawn stretches from either side of a long walk from the front pillars to the entrance. Designed by architects John C. Austin and Frederick C. Brown, the Virginia Hotel was originally the Bixby Hotel but was renamed in 1906 and opened in 1908. It was closed in 1932 after the stock-market crash, and it was demolished after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. The phrase "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders" on the back may mean that this postcard was part of a promotion for the Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The publisher's number on the back is D3.
