The staircase depicted here has bannisters and columns of marble, and statues adorn it. A bench, radiator and mailbox are at the bottom on the left, a gate and palm on the right. Designed by architects John C. Austin and Frederick C. Brown, the Virginia Hotel was originally the Bixby Hotel but was renamed in 1906 and opened in 1908. It was closed after the stock-market crash, and it was demolished after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. The number A3661 at the bottom of the dividing line on the back is from Curt Teich, otherwise unacknowledged.
