Hotel Virginia at Long Beach, California
Van Ornum Colorprint Co., Los Angeles, California
A calm sea lies at the back of the hotel and the adjoining beach. The phrase "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders" on the back may mean that this postcard was part of a promotion for the Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Brochures for this trip exist for 1907-1908. Designed by architects John C. Austin and Frederick C. Brown, the Virginia Hotel was originally the Bixby Hotel but was renamed in 1906 and opened in 1908. It was closed in 1932 after the stock-market crash, and it was demolished after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. The publisher's number on the back is D1.
