The number at the top of the dividing line on the back is 94904, a Curt Teich number that translates to 1923. Designed by architects John C. Austin and Frederick C. Brown, the Virginia Hotel was originally the Bixby Hotel but was renamed in 1906 and opened in 1908. It was closed in 1932 after the stock-market crash, and demolished after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. Here the viewer can see the beach and tennis courts at the back of the hotel. The publisher's number on the back is L-50.
