The Albertype Co., Brooklyn, New York
The Old Plank Road was used from 1914 to 1926 to traverse shifting sand dunes in the Sand Hills area (Algodones Dunes) of Imperial County. It was 7 miles long, in sections measuring 8 X 12 feet meant to be movable when necessary over shifting sand. By the time this postcard was published, United States Highway 80 had been paved through the Sand Hills area, supplanting this plank road.
