C. T. American Art Colored, Chicago, Illinois
In around 1927, United States Highway 80 was completed over the 7 miles of sand dunes formerly traversed only by means of the "Old Plank Road," a set of wooden sections that could be moved if the sands had shifted and covered another section. The number in the lower right corner is 112855, which, according to the guide maintained by the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, translates to 1926. However, the plaque on the site of the Algodones Sand Dunes, also known as the American Sahara or Sand Hills, indicates that the Old Plank Road was used there untiil 1927. The publisher's number, 406, is in the lower left margin.
