Dr Leslie E. Keeley,
Dwight, Illinois,

Dear Sir:-
I hand you, herewith, clippings from the San Francisco daily "EXAMINER," of date Dec. 6th; stating that Doctors Howe and [unknown] are at Pomona, Calif., looking for a site for one of your institutions.

Not knowing whether I can reach the gentlemen, I have sent a telegram addressed to Dr E. E. Howe, Pomona, Calif., reading as follows:
"Notice by Sunday's San Francisco paper you are looking for location Keeley Institute. We are temperance, greatest health resort in world, and will put into company hotel of one hundred rooms elegantly furnished. Answer prospect."

The "Hotel Josephine," located on Cornado Beach, has come into the hands of this company through foreclosure proceedings. It is a hotel of about one hundred rooms elegantly furnished The property cost about $ 110,000.00. We would be willing to put the building into a stock company for the location of your institute, on any basis that might be established by disinterested parties.

A steam motor line passes the hotel doors, with a station at the hotel, trips being made every twenty minutes each way. The hotel is situated within ten minutes ride of San Diego.

I enclose you, under another cover, photograph of the office of the hotel, and shall also endeavor to get a view of the exterior of the building. Also enclose you, under same cover, three descriptive pamphlets of this place and of the "Hotel del Coronado", which will give you a general idea of the situation. Also enclose copy of deed issued by this company, containing restriction clause relative to the sale of liquor. This deed has been held to be valid by the Courts. There is no salon on the Beach, though we have about fifteen hundred inhabitants, with the single exception of the bar in the "Hotel del Coronado," which is controlled by this company the last mentioned hotel being the property of this company and the bar is conducted for the guests of out hotel only. "The Josephine" is located about one mile from the "H .del C."

There is fishing, bathing, boating, and every other means of amusing guests.

In order that you may have knowledge of the even temperature of this place I would ask you to note the scale or temperature table printed in pamphlet forwarded. In addition, I send you record...
