Dear Sir:-
Your letter of the 5th inst., is before me. If you will reread my letter of the 1st inst., you will see that I used the word interests in an entirely different sense from what you mention. I referred to people or factions who have heretofore opposed [unknown].
I note what you say of several complaints regarding the quality of the table of the hotel. I should like it very much, if you could give me particulars of the complaints, so I can follow them. On the other hand, we have been complimented so much--having actually averaged 50 cents per day more in expense for material--than I am at a loss to know just where the reports originated.
During the great rush which we always have in February and March, we must take what waiters we can get, and we do occasionally get some poor waiters, but discharge them as soon as possible, and it may be your informants fell into poor hands.
I know the Raymond & Whitcomb people and others who patronize our house largely have said they have noticed a general improvement in the table; but there may be spots wherein we are weak about which we can learn only through our friends. If you can follow up the reports and give me the names of the parties, I may be able to throw some light on the causes, and I hope you will do this, for I wish to get at the bottom and to see whether poor service existed at the time or whether the trouble arose through some other source.

Yours truly,
[unknown]
