Photographer: DJ Thomas, RSM Design
The mural was located in the lower level of the Aztec Center, demolished in 2011. The mural no longer exists. The artwork depicts four periods of time: Period I, Indian Heritage; Period II, Great Leaders; Period III, Religion and Peace; Period IV, Present Day. It was completed in 1981 as part of a Mexican-American Studies class project. Prominent in the mural are Mayan, Olmec and Tarastec people and their pyramids. Hidalgo, Zapata and others represent the great leaders and Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II represent religion. The present day is depicted on the right with the heart of the Chicano divided by a two-headed snake.
